Welcome, my name is Amaury de Vicq.
I am an assistant professor at the University of Groningen. My research combines economic and historical approaches to better understand individuals' credit arrangements and their investment behaviour. I am equally interested in exploring the long-term dynamics of wealth inequality. My research focuses on Netherlands in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and relies heavily on archival sources.

In February 2026, I was awarded the Rags2Riches grant (up to €500,000) by Open eScience, together with a team of close colleagues from Utrecht University, Maastricht University, and the University of Antwerp.
Publication news
"Wealth-Income Ratios In a Small, Open Economy: the Netherlands, 1854–2019", co-authored with Simon Toussaint (Leiden University), Michail Moatsos (Maastricht University) and Tim van der Valk (Dutch Ministry of Finance), has been published in the European Economic Review.
"A series of (un)fortunate events: Commercial bank interest rates and deposit reallocation during the Great Depression in the Netherlands", co-authored with Ruben Peeters (University of Antwerp), has been accepted for publication in the Economic History Review.
I have a new working paper with Gertjan Verdickt (University of Auckland) on "Financial Regulation and Household Portfolio Reallocation".
